If it’s a revelation for you to find Myles Kennedy on this list, then you won’t be the first to overlook his guitar talents: even Mark Tremonti didn’t realise his new singer could play until the final stages of Alter Bridge’s 2004 debut album One Day Remains. Both in the Bridge and as Slash’s chief Conspirator, the frontman suffers from what an earlier generation might have called ‘Sammy Hagar syndrome’. Like the Red Rocker upon his 1985 arrival in Van Halen, Kennedy is one hell of a guitar player, flanked by a better one. Even so, evidence of his fluid lead skills is all over early band The Mayfield Four, while his feel for acoustic roots was laid bare on 2018’s solo album Year Of The Tiger (try the lap-steel solo on Love Can Only Heal). Best of all is Kennedy’s epic tag-team solo alongside Tremonti on 2007’s Blackbird, voted the greatest in history by Total Guitar.
