Is Jet2 allowed to ignore 14-day cooling-off period?
Q I booked a holiday online through Jet2holidays (www. jet2holidays.com) but then we had a medical emergency in the family which prompted me to consider cancelling. However, Jet2 said travel companies don’t recognise the 14-day cooling-off period for cancelling purchases made online. Is this correct?
James Fair
A Yes, Jet2 holidays and other travel firms are generally exempt from the 14-day period given to shoppers under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, because it would be difficult for them to re-sell specific flights, accommodation, car hire and so on.
Instead, they’re covered by the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 (www. snipca.com/58594), which set out specific rights, such as getting a refund if the organiser cancels the holiday or makes a significant change to it, or if “extraordinary circumstances” mean the trip can’t go ahead safely.
