Born in New Orleans in 1920, Stormé DeLarverie was a butch lesbian of colour, a drag king and a key member of the LGBTQI activism movement that emerged from the Stonewall riots of 1969. In fact, it was DeLarverie’s scuffle with police that many say sparked the riot – or “rebellion”, as she called it.
