BROUGHT TO BOOK
REVAN JOICEY EMAIL After having been trapped inside the Doctor’s sprawling consciousness for the past couple of days I now feel a mixture of slight exhaustion and boundless curiosity. Steven Moffat has masterfully adapted his classic story The Day of the Doctor as a Target book, and expanded it in countless ways that have delighted me and, I’m sure, many other readers. We always knew the Doctor was a tortured soul, but this insight into his many brains’ inner workings has completely captivated me. Moffat has truly captured the idea of the Doctor, not as many different quirky men and women, but as one heroic soul, bouncing from body to body, forever striding to make the right decisions by the universe. The evolution of the character in this book, from McGann’s egocentric swashbuckler to Hurt’s pained warrior, to the dandy and the clown (which is which?), is one that I’m sure fans will be poring over for years and years. Moffat has created a text that stands as a mighty companion to an episode I already thought had said it all.
Revan’s letter wins him a copy of The Tenth Doctor Chronicles, a new box set of audio adventures. It’s available now from Big Finish, priced £23 on CD or £20 to download.
