Scriptwriter Lisa McMullin is describing where listeners will find the Eleventh Doctor (Jacob Dudman) and his cyborg companion Valarie Lockwood (Safiyya Ingar) at the start of Broken Hearts, a self-contained episode that serves as a bridge between last February’s Eleventh Doctor Adventures box set All of Space and Time and the forthcoming Everywhere and Anywhere set.
“I was absolutely livid with the Doctor for what he’d done in James Goss’ brilliant Curiosity Shop story in All of Space of Time,” Lisa explains. “Safiyya, who plays Valarie, said in one of the behind-the-scenes interviews that they didn’t feel Valarie had closure there. So I really wanted to write a story where Valarie kicked back against the Doctor because of what he did to her.
