• 7.15 for 7.30pm. Members free, visitors £1. Drama Hall, Mark Rutherford School, Wentworth Drive MK41 8PX;

2 February Conference

Kew: The National Archives (TNA) is hosting a free conference, The Voices of the People in Early Modern England, with talks and discussions, a document workshop and expert Q&A. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, in collaboration with TNA and Durham University, it is aimed at the research and academic communities and presents a range of expert perspectives exploring the voices of the ‘common’ people of Tudor and Stuart England. Material from TNA and regional record offices will be drawn upon and delegates will ‘hear’ the voices of the people articulating ideas about their place in the legal system, their sometimes bawdy and libellous opinions about their betters, the voices of women made widows by the British civil wars, and the dangerously seditious opinions of ordinary people about politics and social relations. Includes an early modern document display held in TNA’s Events Space.
