As you may or may not have read last month, I have finally got my ZXR-8 running so this month I have been doing all the last little bits needed to get it fully ready to hit the road.
The first job I had to do was to balance the carbs, which is a fairly straightforward but pretty satisfying job. I have a little fuel tank off a minimoto I use for doing jobs like this (jobs where the fuel tank needs to be off, but the engine needs to be running). The balancer is easy enough to set up; you have to pull a little bung from the inlet rubbers, which reveals a hole into which you can push a hose. Then you just need to connect the vacuum gauge using the hoses, making sure you connect each gauge to the correct cylinder – it’s amazing how hard balancing the carbs is if you mix them up!
