The whirlwind of the 2021 season seems to be showing no signs of abating as the condensed BSB season continues to roll on at an incredible pace. We are now into the ‘Showdown’ part of the season. Through one thing and another, I’ve never made it into the Showdown system the riders’ cup champion. It’s want to be... basically a wooden spoon accolade awarded for being the best of the rest, but not this year. We are in!
With no Showdown at all last year (due to the reduced number of races), the rules have been tweaked slightly and instead of six possible champions, we are up to eight. I sit at third in that list with podium credits taken into account, but still some 40-odd O’Halloran, who has performed quite incredibly so far this season. With his points lead cut down to comparatively nothing, I can feeling a little annoyed at the nearly 200 points ahead of the eighth placed guy (Josh Brookes), he is less than a quarter of that – but hey, they are the rules of the game we play. Even from my side, it has really helped slash my deficit to the top of the table and sure, all the guys behind me have also closed the gap to me, but I’m not particularly interested in what’s behind. My mentality from here on in is that either we take the title or we fail. Second, eighth or anything in between is of no importance all-out.
