If you are one of our more eagled-eyed readers, you’ll see that we’ve put Jeff Beck in the spotlight twice this issue. This wasn’t unintentional as our appreciation of the sunglass wearing player is immense, not just because of his placement in the electric guitar’s history but also because he gets sounds out of the instrument that almost no other player can. Where others fear to tread, Beck walks tall and bold, be it on a beautiful orchestral piece like Diamond Dust in the 70s, or dropping jaws with his slide and whammy bar mastery on Nadia in the noughties. He moves forward and keeps expanding. You will have already clocked Jeff in our All-Star jam alongside four other iconic blues players that he stands out from, not necessarily as regards being better (that’s for you to decide) but simply because he’s very different.
