Laminitis poses a risk to horses all year round, but studies have shown that the spring and summer months are when owners should be on red alert. The high sugar content of the grass means increased consumption of carbohydrates. This results in a higher concentration of insulin in a horse’s bloodstream, and this is what’s been proven to induce laminitis.
