The Stelvio National Park straddles huge swathes of the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Lombardy at the eastern end of the Italian border with Switzerland. It’s so big that no one can agree on exactly how big it is – not that the animals, birds and plants that live here would understand what 130,000 hectares actually looked like any better than we do… And anyway, if we look at it from their perspective, it’s even bigger than that, because it connects with other parks under different management.
