6 PLOT PLANS
TO SAVE THE PLANET
Deputy editor Emma Rawlings offers some ideas you could include on your plot to make a big difference to your local environment, your pocket and the planet
1 GROW A FEW ANNUAL FLOWERS
Sow just a few annual flowers in the corner of your plot or in between rows of long-term crops such as brassicas and sweetcorn. Not only will you enjoy the colour on your plot, you will encourage and help pollinators such as bees, insect predators and, more importantly, you will actually confuse the pests. In between a row of cabbages or parsnips sow a row of hardy annuals such as Californian poppies, calendula, cornflowers and cosmos. Many companies sell mixtures of annual flowers too.
