Linux distribution
Garuda Linux 250308
Nate Drake dives into this Arch-based distro, named after a divine bird. Is it a soaring eagle or just a lame duck?
IN BRIEF
Despite some teething troubles with setup, we’re impressed by Garuda’s Mac-like interface, centralised system management, and extensive online support. There’s also a huge number of desktop environments available.
This Arch-based distro follows a rolling-release model. However, the development team has released snapshots of Garuda annually since 2012. The latest version, codenamed Broadwing, is available in a variety of spins.
These include versions with Garuda’s dr460nized desktop, a custom version of KDE Plasma designed to resemble Mac OS. Alternate spins include versions with COSMIC, Gnome, Cinnamon, XFce and Mokka – a Catppuccin pastel-themed KDE desktop, which is the focus of this review.
