A nasty form of ransomware known as both SFile and Escal has been ported to Linux, and is now able to encrypt files on the open source operating system, according to Chinese security firm Rising (read the report using a translator at https://bit.ly/lxf286rising).
When the ransomware first emerged in early 2020 it only targeted Windows systems, and it has been used in attacks against businesses and governments, encrypting files and asking victims to contact the attackers to pay a ransom to decrypt the files.
