OPINION

I read a thread about improving the compatibility of network Samba filesystems shared with Windows clients. It discussed the varied immutable file types in Windows, and how to map them to the differing semantics on Linux. Over the past few years, I’ve seen more community engagement about improving support for Windows emulation and compatibility on Linux, something that historically was relegated to Wine and CodeWeavers customers running select games, or figuring out the nuances of mounting NTFS filesystems on dual boot setups.
