There are many reasons why you might find yourself needing to rename lots of files at the same time. Perhaps you’ve transferred photographs or videos from a memory card and want to be able to identify them better, or organise them by date, location, or occasion. Or perhaps you’ve used a disk recovery tool to retrieve data from a failed drive and want to quickly organise the files that you’ve saved from permanent deletion. Whatever the reason, until a few years ago, there was no way to do it without using a third-party tool or writing your own script or Automator action.
