The Editor and Eric Reits provide their first report from Veldhoven.
By now one of the biggest modelling events in the world, the 2017 Scale Model Challenge in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, was held over the weekend of 20-21 October. It drew modellers from across Europe and beyond (with a sizeable UK contingent), with over 2,000 entries in the competition. The competition featured mainly figures and military vehicles but there were also dioramas, airplanes, ships and sports cars on display. The two days also featured various workshops by David Parker, Bernhard Lustig and many others. The large contest area was flanked by halls with many modelling clubs and a large hall filled with vendors displaying some unique items. Best of all is the large hotel on site that provides affordable and comfortable accommodation within a stone’s throw of the show venue; essential for those late-night sessions catching up with old friends and making new ones. Be sure to put the next SMC in your diary – 20-21 October 2018 – it’s a superb experience.
