MORE than 100 community groups in the Highlands now own their own land, figures from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre have revealed.
Just under 500 community groups in Scotland have benefited from recent land reform policies that help enable communities control their destiny. The majority of beneficiaries are in rural areas, but there is now a push to see a similar trend develop in urban communities.
Kate Forbes, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, said: ‘While it’s fantastic Scotland’s land reform has brought over half a million acres of land into community ownership, it’s even more impressive when you consider the human impact of this reform with nearly 500 community groups now in charge of their own destiny in Scotland.
