There was a short service of remembrance at Arisaig war memorial on November 11 at 9.30am, led by Father Stan Pamula and Rev Stewart Goudie, with support from Rev Geoffrey Andow and Geofithomas. Wreaths were laid by Arisaig and District Community Council, Arisaig Women’s Institute and Mallaig High School pupils. The wreath from the council was laid by Rosemary MacDonald, whose father Charles served in the First World War. The wreath for the WRI was laid by Morag MacDonald, whose aunt Mary McKinnon perished in 1918 while serving as a nurse on a hospital ship.
The pipes were played by David Smith and the event was supported by more than 100 people. Repairs to the path had been completed thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the new benches and handrails were of benefit.
