A ‘SUDDEN strong gust of wind’ blew a passenger plane off the runway while landing at Tiree Airport, an investigation has concluded.
There were no injuries to the seven passengers and two crew, or damage to the DHC-6 series 310 Twin Otter or airfield, during the ‘runway excursion during landing roll’ on March 7.
‘The aircraft was conducting a scheduled flight from Glasgow to Tiree,’ the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AIBB) reported in its findings. ‘After landing in marginal weather, the aircraft veered off the left side of the runway, crossed a short section of grass and came to rest on the cross runway.’
