Plaiting your pony’s mane to perfection will transform his appearance. Whether you’re heading to a dressage comp or want to refine your skills, learning to produce amazing plaits is sure to help him look his best. Here’s how.
TOP TIP
It’s much easier to plait a short mane that’s not too thick. So, if your pony’s mane’s looking a little wild, ask your yard manager or instructor to neaten up it beforehand.
STEP ONE
Start by dampening down your pony’s mane. Doing this means you’ll be able to easily grip the strands of hair and create neat, tight plaits. This will give you a smarter finish and help them stay in place all day long. Simply sponge water onto his mane until it’s wet through - use warm water if it’s a cool day to make sure he doesn’t get cold and start fidgeting.
