THE A69 RUNS west to east from Carlisle, across the Pennines, through the counties of Cumbria, Northumberland, and Tyne and Wear, ending at Denton Burn, a suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The route is 54 miles (87 kilometres) long and has intersections with various B roads that give access to the heritage landmarks of Hadrian’s Wall. For most of its length, it follows the Tyne Valley. It is a primary road with some dual carriageway.
