LIVE ACTION DOCTOR WHO IS nothing new – it dates back to 1965’s The Curse Of The Daleks, a stage play which ran at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre. Even placing yourself within certain aspects of the series has become part of modern-day fandom, with interactive elements a central part of Cardiff’s Doctor Who Experience (RIP), Maze Theory games and Escape Hunt escape rooms.
But the latest offering blends both worlds – ironically enough, given the universewarping premise of Doctor Who: Time Fracture – to bring something new to the exploding world of immersive theatre. It’s certainly the most ambitious project to date, taking place in two connected buildings in central London.
The production is by Immersive Everywhere, the team behind the UK’s longest-running immersive show, The Great Gatsby, who have created a universe of 17 worlds taking up 2,700 square metres of space, the work of over 40 people. After almost 6,000 applications, a cast of 42 performers will form part of the 86 people needed to run each performance. In short: it’s bigger on the inside.
