Realistic Painting
This book is more about accuracy than minute detail and has quite a lot to say about representation. The exercises involving curved, reflective and transparent surfaces are particularly enlightening. You may not want to paint a clear lightbulb, but the exercise will teach you quite a lot. Subject matter includes still lifes, portraits, figures, landscape and buildings. There is also detail work such as water drops and the texture and tones of skin, along with notes on perspective and proportion. There’s much to discover and like here.
