Transliving Christmas Bournemouth Weekend 2023

The weekend of 1st-3rd December was the annual Transliving Christmas-themed party weekend in Bournemouth. We had 85 of us in total and everyone had a great time. DJ Maria Hayes (Totton resident DJ) kept us entertained and on the dancefloor for both nights. As usual several took advantage of the indoor heated swimming pool and spa bath. This weekend has been held at the Laguna Hotel since the 1980s and had a few different organisers before Stacy Novak and I took it over in 2014. We have tried various dress themes at the Bournemouth weekend but the feedback has always been that the longstanding regulars treat it as their Christmas get-together so it has been decided in recent years to just keep it as a Christmas-themed weekend every year. If you have not joined us before then why not consider coming along this year - for full details see the advert on page 65... of this issue.

BEAUTY AND THE BOUTIQUE HOTEL
When Sean first suggested a photoshoot at a cosy boutique hotel in Brighton my first thought was how exciting it would be. Having met and spoken with Sean and having read the lovely comments from others who have had photo-sessions, I was very confident that it would be a great idea. As it turned out, it was.

How to Pull Off a Swimsuit
“Hell no!” I said to friends encouraging my participation in a public swimming pool party. Though a pool party was on my fantasy “to do” list, I figured it impossible to properly fill out a woman’s swimsuit, so the idea of wearing one in public seemed ridiculous.

Becoming Ophelia
How times change. As a child with an urge to crossdress I thought myself alone with a weird disorder. Now as I endeavour to write and share my story I’m conscious of not wanting to bore potential readers of this magazine with an all too familiar tale!
KNOCK OUT BLONDE
I’m very excited this edition to be bringing you an article on the wonderful Kellie Maloney and her new movie Knockout Blonde which I was honoured to be invited to watch as a press guest at its UK Premiere in Essex just before Christmas. Having already won several awards including one at Cannes and another from the Docs without Borders Film Festival in 2023, Kellie once again swept to victory (naturally) on the evening of December 8th at the I Am Film Festival in Romford winning ‘Best Documentary’.

JADE MIA BROADHEAD
For as long as I remember, I’ve wanted to be a singer. People often said I wanted to be Kurt Cobain with my floppy blonde hair, but deep down, it was Courtney Love who I aspired to be. The guys at school wanted to be Axl Rose or Slash, I wanted to be Kat Bjelland from Babes in Toyland. I’ve written songs for as long as I remember, but I was an awful performer. Crippled by stage-fright, the slightest mistake would make me feel sick inside, thinking nobody would ever like my music.
JULIE’S STUDIO PHOTOSHOOT
I’ve always enjoyed professional photoshoots. Somehow, it brings another dimension to being Julie. I have a liking for 1950’s images and the work of Gil Elvgren, especially the flash of stocking tops and the hint of suspenders. I do have a particular liking of 1950’s style boudoir photos.
