“It’s a bit of a weird costume, isn’t it? This ‘folk maiden’ thing…”

“Certain songs stick to you like a magnet”
After hearing so much of your music in a halo of lo-fi fuzz, this album feels like the mists have cleared.
I feel like I tried to do a traditional record, almost by accident. I did actually try to do this a very long time ago. I used to sing these songs, and I still do, in the middle of a noise set, with an electric guitar and lots of reverb, in a way that purists would probably find really disturbing. I remember doing a folk set in Ashington and having a tiny effect on my voice, and this woman just being absolutely appalled. She couldn’t stand it, and I had to wait until she left because I couldn’t carry on. The Apparitions came together for this specific thing. We have practised Sam’s songs as a three-piece a few times. We haven’t recorded them yet, but that’ll be along the line. And then I’ve worked a little bit with Dan, just jamming. He’s a legend. He used to be known in Manchester as a human jukebox, because he can play anything on keyboard or guitar.
