If you went by reporting in the mainstream media, you may think that only millennials choose veganism as a lifestyle. Choosing to go plant-powered is often represented as a ‘young person’s thing’, or a trend that hip 20-somethings embrace.
The reality is that more and more older people are choosing to embrace veganism – and are thriving living without animal products. In this issue we have spoken to some remarkably inspiring vegan women who are in their 60s and older (read our interview with Mimi Kirk and our Meet the Chef feature with Chef Babette). These women have found that veganism has offered a whole host of benefits. For example, the health benefits are widely touted by a number of physicians and studies, but do they translate into everyday life for older vegans? “I would say yes,” says Jennifer. “I am in my early 70s now, and having been vegan for around two years, I can definitely say I feel much better – and have the blood work to prove it.”
