STAR CROSSED

Once plagued by rumors and decades of misinformation, Star Company cards of the mid-1980s – led by the first licensed cards of Michael Jordan – are making a comeback BY MIKE PAYNE

The Jordan and Ewing cards from the Shop at Home Olympic Gold Medal Set that was printed in 1997, not in 1985. These sets never existed and were created and printed 12 years after the card date they carry, as Star claimed they were “discovered” in inventory. The NBA sued Star and Shop at Home, claiming copyright infringement as Star and owner Robert Levin did not possess a valid NBA license at the time the Shop at Home cards were created.
