We take on some of the most epic races out there, because we want you to do the same!
I’ve always liked the idea of running an ultra but, well, they are a bit far aren’t they? So, when the opportunity arose to sample one without having to run more than 26.2 miles (in fact, the minimum distance to take part is four miles), I leapt at the chance.
The race was the St Albans Stampede 12 Hour Enduro, expertly organised by my running club St Albans Striders, and I was asked to join a four-person team. You can also run the in pairs, as a team of eight, or do the whole thing solo. The aim is to run as many of the four-mile laps as you can in 12 hours from 9am to 9pm. The route is all on trail paths or grass around the undulating Heartwood Forest and heaths of Nomansland Common in Hertfordshire.
