Nimrod International Journal of Prose and Poetry is the literary journal of the University of Tulsa, aiming to discover, develop and promote new writing, which welcomes and ‘work that may be unfamiliar to readers… writing from countries not well represented in the American mainstream, writing in translation, and writing from people of under-represented ages, races, and sexual identities’. The team still comment on all submissions and like to ‘recognise, and reward contemporary writing of imagination, substance, and skill’.
Nimrod needs poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction. Submissions are open from 1 January to 30 November each year. Check the website for the theme for the Spring issue, the autumn issue is open. Submit fiction, no more than 7,500 words, with ‘vigorous, fresh writing, with well-developed and believable characters’. Watch dialogue: the team prefer it to be ‘realistic without being banal’. Poetry, no more than seven pages, should have one poem per page, in any style or subject.
