World Radio Day is coming up in February. Radio entertains, comforts and informs, with music, dramas, opinion pieces, comedies, newscasts… it’s like a library on the airwaves.
Most of the time it’s just there in the background and we take it for granted, barely thinking about how wonderful it is. So, take some time to appreciate the wonders of radio with this month’s freerange writing.
Memoir
Radio provides a soundtrack to our lives. For this memoir piece, begin by making a timeline of your life in radio. Which stations did you listen to, and where? Which specific programmes? Which specific broadcasters or songs? Were there times when radio was particularly important, for example during an illness or convalescence, a time of loneliness or loss, a happy time when you simply had to sing along and dance?
