A large collection of items formerly belonging to the poets Sylvia Plath and her husband Ted Hughes were auctioned at Sotheby’s in London in July. The fifty lots raised a total of £777,610, with a collection of sixteen letters written by Plath to Hughes going for £309,200.
The items were put up for sale by the couple’s daughter, Frieda Hughes, with the second most lucrative lot being a set of tarot cards given to Plath by Hughes as a 24th birthday present and selling for around three times the expected £50,000.
