Shoot macro like a pro
Follow these strategies for successful close-up results
High megapixel count cameras can be a benefit with close-up and macro shooting. Having more pixels means you can crop into a small section of the picture and still have a decent size result and hence bigger prints. But there is a limit, particularly with lower-resolution cameras, before image quality starts to break up and artifacts and pixels become obvious.
Software interpolation or image upscaling can produce a larger file from a smaller starting point. Photoshop has good interpolation skills and specialist resizing software, such as Topaz Gigapixel AI, works well. The key is not to be over-ambitious and squeeze a big result from a tiny file. It’s best to fill the frame as much as possible with the subject and not waste pixels.
