Canon has announced the winners of its second Canon Young Champion of the Year Award, which was introduced as part of the Global Good awards to celebrate the achievements of young people around the world who are driving social and environmental change. Recognising the achievements of young sustainability campaigners through photography, the U16s award was won by siblings Mishal and Mir Firaz in the UAE, with Nigeria-based Alabi Samuel Anjolaoluwa winning for the U21s.
Aged just 11 and 14, the Firaz siblings have already been campaigning for sustainability for seven years, and recently founded ‘Winshares’, an app which allows the free sharing of used textbooks and uniforms to support access to education in the UAE while simultaneously reducing waste. Alabi Samuel Anjolaoluwa won the U21s category for his project, Students of Ibadan, which shines a light on the struggles faced by under-served students in Ibadan.
