Daya is taking control
The singer-songwriter talks artistic vision, a decade in the spotlight, and connection with the queer community
By the age of 16 singer-songwriter Daya was already wildly successful. The Pennsylvania-born artist’s debut single, Hide Away, reached number 23 in the US Billboard Hot 100 and amassed over 700 million streams. Although she is a self-professed overthinker, the Grammy Award-winner ignores her past success in order to take artistic risks. “It can be a creativity-killer,” she says. “I would love to get stuff that connects in the same way that those early songs did, but I feel confident that I’m following what I like.”
