The first UK Pride march took place in July 1972 with approximately 2,000 people marching through London, and by 2022, Pride in London had around 1.5 million people celebrating and protesting together.
In the 1990s the World Health Organisation stopped classifying queerness as a mental illness, though it wasn’t until 2019 that the same was done for transgender people.
