I can still remember how I felt when I finished reading the last page of Kacen Callender’s hugely popular novel, Felix Ever After. My vision became misty as I was filled with gratitude that a book existed where the lead was a Black trans character, where he was allowed the room to be messy, to be human. Where he experienced trauma, but there was also healing and joy – and love was what drove the story.
