A ship sails through space in Enlightenment (1983).
It’s rare for the final entry of a trilogy to prove more popular than its opening instalment, but Barbara Clegg’s Enlightenment had the edge on Peter Grimwade’s Mawdryn Undead in the quarter finals thanks to the captivating beauty of its core concept. Its reveal is worthy of the Part One cliffhanger: the Edwardian racing yacht, on which the TARDIS crew have arrived, is actually participating in a literal space race through Earth’s solar system.
