For the 2010 series, new showrunner Steven Moffat wanted a “more frightening Dalek”. Concept artist Peter McKinstry told issue 64 of the Doctor Who Figurine Collection (published in January 2016) that he was asked for “a complete overhaul of every element of the Dalek. More tanklike, taller and more imposing.” He, in turn, “wanted to make them look more dangerous, unstoppable.”
