B arring a couple of mini-episodes produced for Children in Need, the programme’s sole outing in the 1990s was a 1996 BBC/Universal TV movie simply titled Doctor Who. The production team found an ideal director in Geoffrey Sax, who’d been a regular at the BBC in the 1980s and had directed TV movies for Universal in the 90s. In fact, 1980s producer John Nathan-Turner had contacted him about working on Doctor Who before, but scheduling conflicts prevented this.
