FEW ALIEN INCURSIONS HAVE PROVEN AS inexplicable as the one encountered by the Doctor and Clara Oswald on a Bristol housing estate in the early twenty-first century. The motivations of the inhabitants of a two-dimensional universe – dubbed ‘the Boneless’ by the Doctor – at first appear to be scientific curiosity about the three-dimensional universe, which they have recently discovered. The Doctor speculates that these flatland creatures may be unaware that the subjects of their experiments are living people and have unwittingly inflicted painful deaths on the estate residents.
