SMALL TALK
WE TALK TO KIM MCCOOL ABOUT HER LIFE IN MINIATURES
Hi Kim. How long have you been making miniatures? I started making Dana Burton’s miniature dolls five years ago, took up sculpting four years ago, slowly working towards twelfth scale about a year ago.
Where do you create? My studio is my ‘Happy Place’. My husband built custom bookcases across one wall where I have my supplies and art books. There are two handmade lighted curios that contain Dana Burton’s porcelain dolls I’ve wigged and dressed, my sculpts and others I’ve purchased from artists I admire. The walls hold a variety of sentimental items - from portraits and miniatures I’ve painted, to stitched pieces to thoughtful gifts from dear ones. Each and every thing in my studio brings me joy.
