“THIS IS MY entire team behind me,” laughs Takashi Yamazaki over Zoom, gesturing at the ten or so people in his small Tokyo office.
The director is explaining how his 2023 epic Godzilla Minus One — made for just $15 million — managed to beat the $200-millionplus likes of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 and Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One to the Oscar for Best Visual Effects earlier this year. And, apparently, the film’s skeleton crew was a major factor.
