THE CAVALRY TRILOGY
AUTHOR MICHAEL F. BLAKE
★★★
Bugles ahoy! This new appreciation of the John Ford horse-men troika, which Ford himself described as “good Americanism and good Americana”, gets deep into the tumbleweeds. How deep? We learn how many pairs of socks were used for Fort Apache (216). It’s a clear labour of love, but while Ford himself boiled down scenes to their basics, some passages here are so detailed, they’re as dry as a barrelhead cactus.
