JB DUNCKEL CARBON
PROTOTYP RECORDING
★★★
Jean-Benoît Dunckel’s third solo album, after 2015’s The Man Of Sorrow and 2018’s H+, was trailed by a tune called Corporate Sunset, and there’s something inadvertently revealing about that title. It’s a breezy five minutes of krautrockinfluenced instrumental synth-pop that’s perfectly pleasant, but one could easily imagine it used as backing music by a multinational tech firm as they launch their latest ‘gamechanger’ against a background of blue skies and smiling Gen Z faces. In other words, it’s eager to please, pretty and inoffensive.
