As soon as Sarah Cogan’s girlish tones ring out among Dylan Frankland’s pealing guitars on No Dreams Of Fayres, there’s no doubting this Toronto quintet’s second album’s debts. For many, though, they’ll be welcome debts: to The Smiths as well as, even more, The Sundays, and thus – especially on Special – early Cranberries. That said, Wound Up Tight, as the name suggests, adds unexpected fury and Memento subtle layers of fuzz, but Hearts Underground’s summery jangles and Am I The Man’s lilting vocals prevail.
