HOW TO EXPLORE IMPOSSIBLE DEPTHS
Crabster is built to crawl across the ocean floor, reaching locations off limits to other submarines

1 HEARING IMAGES
Crabster’s acoustic camera uses sound instead of light to create an image – ideal for cloudy conditions. It generates 15 frames a second, and so gives real-time images. Its maximum range is 15 metres.
2 SONAR SIGHT
The high-resolution scanning sonar can detect objects in a 150-metre radius. It takes about 20 minutes to carry out a scan, and it’s the first thing Crabster does when it’s launched. This gives a good overview of everything on the seabed.
