TEMPEST TECHNOLOGY
What makes this jet so sleek, sneaky and supersonic?
1 RECYCLED BODY
High-quality steel, aluminium and titanium from old Tornado aircraft have been powdered and 3D printed to make Tempest components.
2 EFFICIENT FLYING
The wing shape is called a delta planform. This means they are triangular when viewed from above. This is the optimal shape for supersonic speed due to its aerodynamics.
3 INTERNAL PAYLOADS
Tempest will be able to carry weapons internally, better protecting them from supersonic forces and preserving a stealthy shape.
4 TWIN ENGINE
The aircraft’s two engines are positioned deep inside the fuselage.
5 FAN STAGES
Large bypass fans compress air for thrust and cooling. The blades are shaped to reduce radar reflections and to work when airflow is uneven during manoeuvres.
