Despite releasing one of the great thrash debuts in 1986’s Doomsday For The Deceiver, Flotsam And Jetsam have never quite scaled the heights that their music deserves. I Am The Weapon is the Arizona diehards’ 15th studio album, and like most of them, it hammers home the timeless allure of their state-of-the-art, melodic thrash sound. Powerhouse vocalist Eric ‘A.K.’ Knutson has steered the ship for so long that he could be forgiven for easing off a bit, but these songs are precise, destructive and anthemic, with a crisp, contemporary production that makes every hook, riff and solo sparkle with zesty clarity. A New Kind Of Hero and the title track are rampaging, tech-tinged hymns to strength and defiance, while Burned My Bridges is a blissfully melodious, mid-paced melodrama and Black Wings stops the show with a dark, theatrical flourish. ■■■■■■■
