Air France-KLM’s Board of Directors is analysing results of a strategic review of the group’s full-freighter operations. On top of ongoing fleet reductions amid a slower than expected recovery in demand, the group is reducing the full-freighter fleet based in Amsterdam to just three aircraft by the end of 2016. Meanwhile, five McDonnell Douglas MD-11s will undergo accelerated phasing out of service during next year and 2016. By that time, the Group will operate just five full-freighter aircraft: two Boeing 777Fs based in Paris and three Boeing 747-400ERFs in Amsterdam compared with the 14 aircraft currently in service. Air France-KLM plans to remain a major player in the cargo sector in Europe through its extensive belly network effectively supplemented by decreasing numbers of full-freighter aircraft.
